This
two month workshop is for beginner, advanced
beginner
& intermediate percussionists for congas,
bongos, timbales
and cajones.
1. Beginner sessions will cover:
a. Folklore rhythms Guaguanco & Bembe
learn the basic rhythmic patterns for the Guaguanco rhythm
learn the basic rhythmic patterns for Bembe
learn how to listen to the way each of the parts "fit
together" or "lock in" with each other.
b. Ensemble rhythms of cha cha cha and Mambo
learn the basic rhythmic patterns for cha cha cha and Mambo
on conga drums
learn how to listen to the way each of the parts "fit
together" or "lock in" with each other.
2. Advanced beginner sessions will cover:
a. More in depth study
of the Guaguanco rhythm including Cajones (box drumming
patterns) as well as Bembe.
Study variations for both tumba and segundo drums of Guaguanco
learn basic patterns for Cajones (box drumming)
learn basic quinto ride patterns as well as singing coros
Learn songs for Bembe as well as variations for "Caja"(low
drum)
b. Cha cha cha, Mambo & Songo
Learn the basic parts of conga variations, timbales
& bongo.
For those who are going to take the workshop, I offer a
$30 private lesson (normally $40) to help build up confidence
for participation with everyone else.
These workshops will be limited to 7 students.
Weekly sessions for very beginning level are 1-1/2 hours
each Wednesday morning from 10:30-12:00pm or evenings from
4:30 to 6:00pm. Beginners Registration
is $200.
Weekly sessions for advanced beginners are 1-1/2 to 2 hours
each Sunday from 10:30 - 12:00pm. Advanced Beginners Registration
is $200.
